Has there been any research done on whether therapists, who have completed cultural competence training, have better treatment outcomes with their clients?
Answer
There have been research articles written about the training of cultural competence and many assessment tools have been developed. However, very little has been written about the patient outcomes related to this training and assessment tools. We are starting to see the beginning of research on patient outcomes in nursing, social work and clinical psychology literature. Occupational therapy needs to follow their lead to demonstrate evidenced based practice in this area.
