What are the types of patients seen by a pediatric feeding team?

Answer

On our team at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego, we see children from the ages of birth to 12 years of age with a variety of etiologies.  They include: premature birth, cardiac problems, gastrointestinal problems, developmental disorders, pulmonary disease, neurological disorders, and structural abnormalities.  We treat the following diagnoses: feeding disorder, dysphagia, failure to thrive, oral aversion and g-tube dependency.

Haven Qualman received her Master’s degree at San Diego State University in 1995. She received Board Recognition in the Specialty of Swallowing & Swallowing Disorders in 2009. She has worked most of her career at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego (RCHSD), and her practice focuses on patients with feeding & swallowing disorders and brain injuries. She coordinates the multi-disciplinary Feeding Team at RCHSD and supervises the inpatient therapy team.
