This course will examine the functional connections between components of the upper quadrant, discuss common diagnoses, review indications, precautions and contraindications for specific diagnoses as they relate to aquatic therapy. Clinical pearls, current evidence and aquatic progressions for the upper quadrant will be presented through research review, case studies, and video examples.

Learning Outcomes
- Participants will be able to write at least two medical justification statements supporting aquatic therapy interventions in the treatment of upper quadrant dysfunction.
- Participants will be able to identify at least five basic rehabilitation goals for upper quadrant impairments (decrease pain, reduce muscle tension, increase mobility, improve muscle balance, and restore postural awareness) with appropriate aquatic therapy interventions.
- Based on research, Participants will be able to describe at least two important factors of thoracic spine mobility in relationship to shoulder, neck dysfunction, and pain.
- Participants will be able to progress a client through water exercises to improve posture, increase upper quadrant strength and decrease stress/ tension in the cervical muscles.

Beth is the owner of North County Water and Sports Therapy Center in San Diego CA, specializing in aquatic and orthopedic physical therapy since 1997. Beth is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist, a certified STOTT Pilates instructor, and an Aquatic Therapy Rehabilitation Institute Certified therapist. In 2010, Beth was honored with Aquatic Therapy Rehabilitation Institute's Tsunami Spirit award for her contribution to aquatic therapy education. In 2012, she was named Aquatic Therapy Professional of the year. In 2015, the Aquatic Section of the APTA presented Beth with the Judy Cirullo award in recognition of her promotion of aquatic therapy. Additional aquatic therapy certifications include Master Instructor for the Burdenko Method and Trainer for AquaStretch™, a myofascial release technique performed in the water. Along with continuing to actively treat patients, Beth travels the country and world providing education courses with the focus on aquatic therapy.
