The course taught me new things, reinforced some things I have already learned, and has given me new assessment tools that I can use with my students. I love it when I can implement ‘tools’ from a course right away. Also, I could listen to these practitioners all day, such great information delivered with such calm voices.

Addresses subject matter that should be considered in treating any client as you never know who experienced trauma that impacts behavior. Well done to point this out and explain in a manner that helps one better establish an effective therapeutic rapport needed to better understand a client and more effectively assess and treat.

I really appreciated all the resources that were demonstrated and uploaded. I also enjoyed that this session made me reflect on my own therapy services and reminded me to slow down and build rapport. Even though we all feel pressure it get so much done in the few sessions we have, it is equally important to build a connection first, might take a few sessions and that is most important first.

Working as a COTA in EI we see families that foster, foster to adopt and are adopted. You can see how much it affects children when you get one on one time. It takes a lot of rapport to build with children vs children that are not in the foster system. It’s definitely important to use these techniques and observe children who have experienced a difficult past and help them the best way we can.

The presenter (LeRoux) conveyed the kind of presence that would be used when working with clients: a very calm presence. She emphasized building rapport, being present, not becoming distressed when the assessment does not go as you would like, and continue to be present for the child. She offered good examples throughout the presentation. A variety of resources were offered as well.

It was a bonus and great reminder to hear how impactful we as OT's can be for each patient we meet, IF we're willing to allow them to meet us naturally after building rapport. Productivity numbers

I enjoyed this course and felt that it was very applicable. The examples provided were relevant and I felt empowered in using a trauma informed approach as I approach treatment and assessment with all of my clients, not just those with known trauma backgrounds. After this course, I am interested in learning more about using a trauma-informed approach and how to apply that to my practice to better fit the needs of the clients I serve.
