Falls definitely impact senior’s quality of life in ways not experienced by other populations and is most definitely under studied. With the aging population, it is good to see more information coming out or at least more conversations on this topic. OTs are in a prime position to address the issues surrounding falls and advocate for seniors.

Good important information that I will utilizing with my discharging plan to prepare my patients to return home safely and for decreasing the risk of falls at home. Social determinants of health are an important part of decreasing risk of falls for our older patients. I will do more research on our local resources so I can provide this information to my patients that are discharging to home.

I would not have selected this course if I had been aware that it was auditory only (I am not an auditory learner) but discovered this right when I began. I found the soft spoken voice of the male facilitator difficult to hear and was "put off" by the female presenters use of "sure" all the time. That said, I was introduced to the concept of Social determinants of health. I also was not aware of what a large part malnutrition plays in the risk of falls for older adults.

Wow! EXCELLENT course that truly addresses the heart of OT...FUNCTION in one's natural environment. My mind was going a mile a minute thinking about how I could use the information in this course for improved success with d/c from acute care to home (what could we be doing differently, what other questions could we be asking, what other services could we be tapping into for d/c planning to facilitate aging in place and to help decrease hospital readmissions).

When I was younger I used to do home health fall prevention. I had a lady who used to fall 2 times daily and she couldn't get her mail from the mail box. Her husband was extremely nervous, but supportive and fearful. After three weeks of home health she was no longer falling and she was able to get her mail. The husband shook my hand crying saying thankyou. It was not that hard to change there lives. Why isn't more being done?
