The role of rehab therapists in helping individuals adapt to new roles and routines within 24 - 48 hours after cesarean section, cesarean hysterectomy, and large-degree perineal tears will be reviewed in this course. Clinicians will learn strategies that improve early participation in daily living activities involving self-care, newborn care, and home management. - After this course, participants will be able to differentiate signs and symptoms of critical maternal health concerns following traumatic delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, wound complications leading to embolism, preeclampsia, or maternal cardiac events.
- After this course, participants will be able to compare/contrast the rehabilitation interventions that are typically accessible to patients after knee or hip replacement with interventions accessible to patients after cesarean section.
- After this course, participants will be able to distinguish the appropriate outcome measures to screen patients who would benefit from an acute rehab evaluation in the hospital after birth to support daily occupations.

Dr. Jenna Segraves, PT, DPT, NCS, is a Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist in Physical Therapy and a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Graceland University’s hybrid DPT program. Her clinical practice involves various settings and populations, including outpatient neurology, pelvic health, and acute care, focusing on
neuro/trauma diagnoses, critical care, the emergency department, and inpatient obstetrics. For the acute care obstetric population, she evaluates and treats individuals within 24 hours following delivery. She teaches continuing education courses and provides hospital training for rehab professionals interested in working with acute obstetric patients. Dr. Segraves is passionate about expanding physical and occupational therapy services to optimize function
in the immediate postpartum recovery phase.

Specialist. She has extensive experience treating perinatal and pelvic health
conditions in acute care, home health, and outpatient settings, including long-term hospitalizations for high-risk pregnancies and following perinatal loss. She founded Enhanced Recovery After DeliveryTM, an obstetrics clinical pathway that maximizes mental and physical function during pregnancy and immediately postpartum with hospital and in-home occupational and physical therapy. Her vision is that every person will have access to a qualified rehab therapist during pregnancy and within the first 6 weeks after birth, perinatal loss, pregnancy termination, and any pelvic surgery, regardless of their location or ability to pay.
