This was an exceptional course! Content was delivered in a way that not only impacts a specific clinical competency, but also applies to my general approach to practice. Content applies even more broadly to my world view and general interactions with others.

Dr. Mindy Brooks-Eaves' personal stories drove home her points in a raw yet profound manner: to hear the pain in her voice and see her wince at the memory of the incident she spoke of in the opening of her presentation truly highlights the importance of cultural humility. Without cultural humility, we (unintentionally or otherwise) can create pain and hurt other human beings. I look forward to learning from the clients I serve about their cultures as we grow and work together to be more humble.

This is such an important and relevant topic that most do not get in "formal" education. The instructor was great - good approach to teaching through stories and personal experiences to help student understanding and very down-to-earth. So clear and concise in her teaching and communication on a complex topic.

Because we live in a diverse world; we do need to understand the ethical rules of life. If we have no understanding of knowing, things can go wrong. Learning to humble one self and being able to identify characteristics awareness can take one a long way in life. I really appreciated this course. It will help me through my work and about myself more. Being of mix background. I've had to endure much, yet, I took it upon my self to understand the other character in order to grow more in life.

BRAVO!!! This material is critical in the work force. I also witness major biases not addressed here, such as how workers' biases impact treatment they provide to obese patients. The quality of not only physical TX, but also the manner in which they are spoken to...by "PROFESSIONALS".

If this is a course on cultural competency, where were examples either in presenters or stories, of other cultural components ie religion, geography, gender? More representations of other issues and less sole focus on b/w racial issues would better. Also, if you, as a presenter, have a frog in your throat, TAKE A DRINK OF WATER! Viewers won't be offended if you pause.

As occupational therapists, we spend a large portion of our study and practice on INDIVIDUALLY client-centered assessment and treatment. It seems unnecessary to group people into categories and assume cultural biases while teaching us not to be culturally biased with foreknowledge of that culture. Feels like a lesson in critical race theory vocabulary and personal experiences, when treating individuals as humans with different experiences is already what OT is about.

It may simply be that what was presented felt like basic concepts I was already aware of and practice, and did not contribute clinically to me for geriatrics. The culture I most commonly encounter in this setting is unfortunately an age/sex group that has been programmed for decades with various levels of racism towards primarily black people, with hispanics in a close second. I think having topics/discussions on how we can guide our patients towards better treatment of black staff and fellow residents while respecting their individual rights and freedom of ideation and speech would be more beneficial for me personally.
