The presenter was well organized and clear, giving appropriate examples and resources. The outlines and instructions for "how to teach" the skills were clear, concise, and well presented. This course will be very helpful in my school-based work with many children who are autistic.

Everything taught will be very useful in my school based setting. I work very closely with kids with autism and struggle when it comes to social stories so I feel this was broken down great and was great to learn more about!

As I am learning more about neurodiversity and affirming treatment, there are a lot of behavioral techniques I'm not comfortable using anymore in my sessions. I think we need to accept and honor how all children play, especially the young children, and not try to "teach" play. Each child comes with unique and individual qualities that we can focus on within their environments and ask the families what they want and the approaches they are comfortable with.

This is a great course for new OTs who will be working at schools. She gives great examples and is very clear in her explanations. She provides excellent resources, especially for newbies. Know that she uses ABA style and sometimes gives positive reinforcement with things like food. I don't agree with the method, but it is commonly used in schools (or used to be). I would prefer seeing more visuals- but this was a good power point presentation.

She did good job presenting & breaking down problem areas and approaches to solution. I didn't like that her go to strategy for teaching was entirely a behavioral approach-use a reward & she often used edible rewards. I'm uncomfortable w/food as a motivator &think there are some inherent problems w/taking preferred items from a kid w/ASD who's struggling to regulate & communicate; I prefer co-regulation & building trust as foundation for teaching skills.Behavior approach not clear in description

Although this was only a two hour course which limits information given, it was disappointing when instructor would say “ More about this later” but never get back to it. The assessment portion was very short and not one standardized assessment was listed, rather a web address given to look up a list. Instructor did not even list what she uses.

This course was not neurodiversity affirming in any way. The methods continued to repeat using candy and food as rewards. The methods were like DOG training, instead of taking into consideration sensory processing, self or co-regulation skills, or the individual's autonomy. I work at a pediatric outpatient clinic, and I would not use this in my practice.
