I am new to school-based OT and this course has been one of the most helpful with concise and knowledgeable information regarding handwriting. There are also interventions and accommodations that were discussed, and I found that so helpful. This was one of the best school-based OT courses I have taken online yet.

Weakly evidenced. Presenter draws causal conclusions from epidemiological evidence: better handwriting = better standardized testing scores, when in reality that is simply an association and may have more to do with dedication to the process and learning habits, emphasis on writing in relation to socioeconomics, etc. Makes limited connection to school-based scope of practice (function vs. excellence).

I am a multi-sensory learner, and having to choose print OR audio was disappointing. I like to have the written info and follow the audio, but that is not a course issue - that is a systems issue.

I especially like the breakdown of what is developmentally appropriate re: handwriting. I am well-versed in pre-writing development, but the stages presented by Marina challenged my own assumptions. I will definitely be sharing what I learned with teachers and administrators!

The course reinforces what is commonly practiced in school-based therapy. In 2024, some of the resources/studies appear outdated. A good way to summarize this course is that motivation is key with students. After 4th grade, it is difficult to change a student's handwriting habits.

The presenter provided opinions based on her observations without reliable research evidence, citing New York Times articles and Harvard business review. Rather than citing evidence for the development of handwriting. In fact, many of her unsupported claims contradict research presented in other courses including "Integrated Evidence-Based Keuboarding", "How To Fix Common Handwriting Challenges In Pediatric Therapy", and "Size Matters Handwriting Program: Promoting Legibility and Carryover"
