I think it's very important to put any personal biases aside, as a clinician and healthcare provider, and remember that we should always be advocating for our patients. This course gave me greater insight into understanding the terminology and interventions to support the patient.

I have a question about how "they" impacts accuracy in charting and conveying accurate information about the number of people that receive information... It has been a frequent problem for my husband that scribes are instructed to identify everyone with they/them pronouns, but this often causes a lot of problems with the implications this makes on who has received, acknowledged or engaged in making a decision about a patient's care when a loved one is attending their session...

Honestly, as a 2SLGBTQIA+ community member and clinician I usually enter into these continuing education opportunities with hesitation because often times I end up having to educate the presenters because they themselves are NOT members of our community and their information is outdated, at best, and inflammatory at worst. THIS course is EXCELLENT and expansive even for an introductory level course! Both presenters were confident, competent, affirming, sensitive, and empathetic! TY4that ~Phoenix

To me there was too much focus on the basics of gender identity and sexual orientation. As a healthcare provider I wanted more actionable information to help me provide better care past just asking someone’s pronouns. Especially since 99% of the time I am not dealing with who they are sleeping with and have been careful to ask how someone is related to not assume relationship for the decade plus I’ve been practicing.

As a practitioner in a school setting, we are seeing more and more middle and high school students who are expressing gender orientation that differs from what is seen in their charts. These students may or may not have support from their families. This course provided sensitive and definitive ways to work on personal biases as well as systematic biases in the school and to provide clarity for working with groups of young people as well as individuals. It is such an important time for this topic

Health equity is for all humans and this course enables clinicians to take a deeper dive into what that means as institutions, practitioners & as individuals. To not recognize the importance of honoring who people are, their truth & meeting people where they are at, is a disservice both to the mission of healthcare provision in the 21st century. If you take this course you will learn not only about healthcare equity for the LGBTQIA+ Community but also about yourself & how bias matters. 5 stars!

Excellent course. An extremely comprehensive introduction to the wide spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities. Points out that being aware of how clinicians frame questions and approach patients is inclusive of everyone, for both people who are and are not of a marginalized gender identity or sexual orientation. Even though I consider myself better informed than most, I still learned something new.
