It would be nice to have more specific ergonomic practices. For example, I know seat tilt can be helpful for making room in the hips.

I think it needs a video or audio portion, but it is an extremely crucial topic. There have also been legal updates, such as the pump act, so I think an updated version of this course is important.

Brief overview of a woman's rights during pregnancy and postpartum.
by
Leah
on
July 24, 2021
The information about legal rights was helpful and a good starting place to look up additional information. I found the information regarding biofeedback, ergonomics, and adaptations to be lacking in actual criteria or strategies. For example "avoid heavy lifting" is fine but what is defined as heavy? What ergonomic adaptations can be made for seating? What good is a pulse ox or blood pressure cuff without parameters to monitor by?

Most of the information presented seemed common sense. It was helpful to have some of the laws and regulations explained. Otherwise, it felt very surface level. However, that is probably fitting for a one hour course.

I was anticipating a course that was much more comprehensive, not just based on the presenter's personal experience of what she did during her pregnancy instead of actual objective medical information, and more inclusive regarding FMLA (not all pregnant women have "dads" as their legal partners). This class was mostly a disappointment and not what I'd consider a professional CE class - it seemed more like what might be presented to expectant parents in a childbirth class.

Majority of what was covered in this course was not validated by research or evidence. No matter how experienced the presenter might be in her field of expertise, one's personal experience does not count as objective data. While what is stated in this course might be true, scientific evidence and references to research studies are what give the material credibility in a field of science. Without those, this is merely another pregnancy guide akin to the famed 'What to Expect When You're Expecting'.Contact sports are mentioned as activities to avoid. Whereas this may be accurate, the sports listed - badminton, tennis and racquetball - are NOT contact sports. They are considered 'non-contact sports'.Additionally, this is listed as an hour-long class. I am not a fast reader, but I read every word in the text, and finished the course in 27 minutes. The inclusion of additional references and scientific data would've compensated for this lack.

I liked the poll asking audience for tips. Would add ergonomic strategies for carpal tunnel (ie. changing work set-up or task) and gentle stretching, which is super important if someone is averse to injections or unable to wear splints.
