I retired as an OTPs after more than three decades and will be re-entering the field part-time. Although I feel that I have a good sense of therapeutic relationship, it was helpful to review this important practice. The presenter shared her personal narrative which had a significant impact on me. Understanding our clients' lives is so important in the outcomes of our interventions.

The presenter demonstrates excellence through the provision of a comprehensive overview of the most significant theoretical concepts of knowledge principles and concise summary of current models from a healthcare management perspectives on the skilled application of the rapport building art of Therapeutic Use of Self that allow the learner to gain a more innate unified conception of how to adjust, fine tune for the hope for improvement to support patient - centered / client - centered treatment.

The instructor's passion is obvious and the material is interesting, however, as presented in this venue it was not as effective as it would be if presented in person. The powerpoint slides supplement an oral lecture; in my opinion, though, they were not sufficient to support a text based continuing ed course. The transcript was interesting to read, but difficult to use as a pedagogical tool.

This was a grounding and wonderful reminder of my values and efforts to offer person-centered/client-centered therapy. It reminded me of the ways that I have offered client-centered OT over the years and encouraged me to continue doing so. I was touched by the presenter and the presentation. Furthermore, the presentation helped me feel better about my work as an OT in mental health where I have been using a client-centered approach long before it was recognized and embraced in the field.

Bravo, and thank you to this presenter for sharing so eloquently and passionately about what I feel is the essence of our profession, and so rarely spoken about! With 30 + years as an OT I know listening, collaboration, non-judgment, care, being present are essential in fostering a therapeutic relationship, and serving our patients/clients. It has been disconcerting over the last decade to observe productivity and numbers playing too pivotal of a role in healthcare.

As an OT for over 28 years, working with the geriatric population in either LTC or home settings, I have been using many of these principles in my practice. I honestly have never taken any specific courses about therapeutic use of self, so hearing and seeing your work only solidifies my own personal theories of how my approach, along with a sound Occupational Performance mindset, has affected significant change in many of my clients. I think all therapists need to take this course. Thank you.

This is a core concept for OT’s that by graduation, should become an inherent skill. I would have liked to see direction on how to implement within the increasing reimbursement obstacles including documentation of skill and medical necessity. More info on the exact skills that only an OT can provide, versus another (less expensive) discipline. Therapists need to not only be reminded this is a main modality, but also how to ethically incorporate and document use into modern practice in order for this modality to receive the attention it deserves.
