Dr. Cristina Reyes Smith is an Associate Professor and Director of Admissions in the College of Health Professions (CHP) Division of Occupational Therapy at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Smith serves in multiple national leadership roles, including as a Director for the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Board of Directors (2020-2023) and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education (JOTE). She is a Co-Founder of the Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity (COTAD), a national 501c-3 organization. In 2022, Dr. Smith was invited to serve on the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) Standing for Research Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (STRIDE) Committee.
Dr. Smith serves as the Chair of the MUSC Faculty Senate Institutional Advancement Committee and coordinates multiple annual events through the university, including the MUSC Culturally Sensitive Care Program, the MUSC Septima P. Clark Poetry Contest celebrating the poetic achievement of children and youth across the state of South Carolina, and the OT Track of the Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC) Summer Careers Academy for prospective health professions students from under-represented backgrounds. She teaches multiple courses on Leadership & Management, advises multiple student organizations, including Aprendiendo Juntos/Learning Together and the MUSC COTAD Student Chapter, and mentors doctoral capstone project students in the Entry-Level and Post-Professional OTD programs.

Dr. Dennis Cleary has over 25 years of experience as an occupational therapist. Dennis’ clinical practice has been primarily with children and adults with intellectual disabilities to encourage their full participation in all aspects of life at home, work, and in the community. He has had faculty positions at The Ohio State University and Indiana University. As a researcher, he has been on teams that have received over seven million dollars in grants from state and federal agencies, including a National Institutes of Health multisite trial of the Vocational Fit Assessment, an age-appropriate transition assessment, which he co-created. He has numerous publications and national and international presentations. Dennis is passionate about increasing the role of Occupational Therapy in transition-age service with the goal of improving outcomes and quality of life for all.
