How clinicians can successfully evaluate and treat clients in oncology rehabilitation throughout the continuum of care will be addressed in this course. Therapists will benefit from building their oncology rehabilitation expertise through current evidence, comprehensive intervention methods, case studies, and specific guidance for clients with various cancer diagnoses. A specialized focus on therapy’s role in end-of-life care will be provided.

This session will explore hoarding in senior living by first defining hoarding and identifying the types of hoarding behaviors. The session will look at the scope of the issue in various levels of senior living (e.g., independent/assisted living, SNF, senior housing), reasons why individuals may hoard, health conditions that might lead to hoarding behavior, and the effects (physical, social, emotional) of hoarding behavior. Approaches and signs for recognizing hoarding behavior will be addressed. Finally, strategies to address hoarding in senior living will be offered, including how to balance interventions with resident rights, standardized assessment to determine the severity of hoarding, the dos and don’ts of communicating with a hoarder, and practices for supporting the hoarder toward a place of health and well-being.

Palliative care and the role of occupational therapy will be discussed in this course. Interventions supported by research in occupational therapy will be described along with our distinct value in this area.

The Fugl-Meyer Assessment for the Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) is widely used as the gold standard in stroke research. Therapists will learn how to administer this standardized neurorehabilitation assessment of motor impairment for the hemiparetic arm and hand through detailed instructions and video demonstrations.

An overview of seizures and epilepsy in children and adults will be discussed in this course. It will include the impact, causes, identification, management, and essential teachings for individuals, caregivers, and healthcare personnel. Biomedical and holistic interventions in the management of epilepsy will be discussed. In addition, valuable resources and tools in seizure and epilepsy management will be shared.

Cultural humility and competence for occupational therapists in international and domestic therapeutic settings will be covered in this course. It will include experiential scenarios for providing services and outline skills used to maintain cultural sensitivity and competence while engaged in OT services.

A general overview of the history of OT in mental health and practice indications. More specifically, this course will inform OTPs of common practice settings, the clinical presentation which includes common diagnoses, impairments, and impact on areas of occupation, different assessment tools and evidenced-based treatment interventions, and desired OT functional outcomes.

It will include the causes, impact, medications, monitoring, and essential patient self-management teachings. In addition, valuable resources and tools will be shared to help individuals manage asthma and anaphylaxis, including assessing control and reducing triggers in various environments.
